HI

I am pleased I have found this forum and really could do with a little help.

I have recently got a new HP Gen8....I cant  get it to power up

When its powers up with a VGA cable (vga to dvi adaptor) I get two beeps and NO video

When it powers up with no VGA cable (vga to dvi adaptor) then its just NO video..............then as soon as I plug the cable in, it beeps twice.

Basically I have no video and am unable to do anything

I have stripped the HP Gen8 back to as it was when it arrived to me i.e no hdd, no ssd, basic RAM etc...

So in essence it boots with no video, however usb keyboard looks to be ok - lights up !

Really need some help

Thanks

When you say "basic RAM" do you mean the exact same DIMM that came with the unit?

BTW, I think you're absolutely using the right approach by taking it back to how it was when you received it. Did you not power it up as soon as you unboxed it, just to see that it worked?

yeah "basic RAM", as in the RAM is was supplied with.

No, I never powered it up as soon as it arrived, I was waiting for my HDD's to arrive...

@jmwills  - not sure I can flash the BIOS without a monitor !, but yeah RMA !

Really frustrating all this.....ive been waiting until I could afford this

No way to connect a VGA monitor? (Meaning you don't have a VGA monitor)

Is there any manual that describes what the POST two beeps means ?

Yes, and they will be categorized as either short or long.

@jmwills I have monitor with DVI.My main PC has DVI output to the monitor DVI input. For the HP Gen8 i have VGA to DVI adaptor i.e VGA->DVI adaptor -> monitor...

The monitor also takes VGA....maybe I should get a proper vga cable ?...

can you post a part number or picture of the VGA-DVI adapter?

And the model number of the monitor?

Yes.

VGA to DVI conversion seldom works. At least in my experience.

@schoondoggy  really ?...well then that could be an avenue to explore..

My montior is an IIlyama  Prolite e2407hds Model pl2400

The VGA to DVI adaptor is a generic Startech "dvivgafmbk" - only cost a few quid
