What to use as a HBA?

Curious as to what people are using as a HBA to connect more drives?

I want to use something like drive pool, but need to expand what the Mobo has in terms of ports. I know the FreeNAS people use the LSI HBAs, but that seems overkill for a Windows server at $250 a pop.

Thoughts?

The IBM M1015 is LSI based and a popular choice, on ebay for under $100.

The Highpoint Rocket, not RocketRaid, boards are popular.

I think SuperMicro has some as well.

I'm currently using an intel SASUC8I 8 port SAS/SATA controller, with solaris 11.1, but it uses a lsi controller that I am getting good performance from. It is however only being used as a non raid controller. I have had zero problems with it since purchase in january 2013.

I second the IBM M1015. Cheapest LSI card I've seen. Just cross-flash it to an LSI9211-8i in IT or IR mode to allow drive pass-thru configuration.
