Looking for a quick answer here from someone in the know...
I upgraded some of the internals of my Gen8 server and at the same time I did a BIOS reset as I had forgotten the password that I had set years ago. When booting back up the upgraded hardware was detected and fine but I received Error 1784 - Drive Array - Logical Drive Failure. I believe this is due to a setting change in the BIOS and not anything hardware related. I have gone into IP/SSA and see the array needs to be rebuilt. I had all drives configured as single RAID0. It says all data will be lost if I reconfigure this but I remember reading somewhere on here that the data will be fine if I reconfigure as RAID0.
I do have a backup of course, but it’s not a high availability mirror and will take some time to get back the way I had it, so just want to know if it’s safe to reconfigure the RAID0 without erasing the drives. I have tried pulling the drives out and connecting them to another PC and they are fine. Can anyone tell me which options to choose to get these back to normal and remove the flashing red light?
Hello! Recently I've been thinking to upgrade the CPU in my HP ProLiant ML10 v2. It currently has a Intel® Pentium® G3240 (I got the model of this server that comes with the Intel® Pentium® G3240) and according to the manual I should be able to upgrade the CPU to a Intel® Xeon® E3-1220v3. Is this true? Do I need to change / get anything else? Thanks.
I just upgraded my CPU from a 1610T to a 1220L. All is going well, but I noticed fan speed has increase from like 10-14% to 14%-18%. I am wondering if someone else who upgraded is seeing the same just to rule out that I applied thermal paste wrong, screwed up heatsink install or something like that. I was expecting more or less (or even lower) fan speed as this CPU has a TDP of 20W, and the 1610T had 35W.

I bought a HP microserver Gen8 to learn ESX and to host some VM.
This is my initial configuration :
CPU G1610T Celeron 12Go RAM 1 microSD (ESX) 4 HDD (data) 1 SSD (vm)
Really great hardware but I wanted to upgrade it to have more core/thread (and more VM).
After read many and many post like this :

I bought a E3-1265L (v1 > the strange and cheaper version ^^) with a TDP at 45W and frequency lower than the v2 (processor base frequency = 2,40GHz instead of 2,50GHz) and my understanding was the difference between the original CPU (TDP = 35W) and the E3-1265L is enough small to avoid thermal problems.
BUT... (do you expect that ? )
After many test, I know I have a new heating system in my house...
Let me explain.
I made some test with mprime and I found these (relevant) results :
ORIGINAL CPU : CELERON G1610T
power consumption : arround 52 W
cooler : CPU fanless and optimal thermal setting in bios

I have some questions :
1) Do you think my results are good ?
I received the CPU in a very bad package and without anti-static bag. Maybe it doesn't work fine ?
2) Do you know a test to confirm the good preformance of my CPU ?
I don't know how to benchmark my CPU with similar other configuration
3) Only 10W TDP between Celeron and E3-1265L and too large increase of temperature ? Have-you the same result ?
4) Have you some warning point to share with me ?
5) Today, should we continue to use the B120I instead of AHCI for SATA performance ?

A year ago when I was planning my move to Ohio I wanted to move my 5TB drives from my HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9 to my HPE ProLiant ML10v2 in order to set up a “Mirror” backup of the files on my WHS2011 system using AllWay Sync on my ML10v2. The fastest way to make the move was to unplug the drive-cage in the ML30 Gen9 and plug it into the ML10v2! It fit perfectly and worked flawlessly. It also spoiled me!
After settling in Ohio, finally, I wanted to return the ML30 Gen9’s drive-cage to its rightful place and I began searching for the best low-cost way to add a drive-cage to my ML10v2 that worked like the one in the ML30 Gen9 instead of the stock ML10v2 drive-cage. There’s a great discussion in the HSS Forums documenting forum members search for a similar drive-cage.

After reading some great suggestions in the Forums I stumbled upon the 792351-001 in the parts number of the ML30 Gen9 manual and thought it should fit the bill and found a low-cost option at Calhoun Technologies for a 792351-001 “Refurbished”.

The 792351-001 did work in my ML10v2 but I could not close the front cover on the ML10v2, so I kept looking while also trying to modify the 792351 with my Dremel. I could make it fit finally, but only after a lot of Dremel work and the end result didn’t look good.

The 686745-002 that arrived was identified with a similar tag: HP P/N 674790-002 Replace with spare HDD Cage, 4LFF, 4U Gen8 Enhanced (686745-002) LITEON (Rev.A) 14-03-17.
On the drive-cage out of the ML30 Gen9 I found the part number 686745-002 which I thought was the part number of the cage alone. (I was wrong about that!) I found it at Calhoun Technologies listed as HP 686745-002 “Refurbished” SPS-HDD cage 4LFF 4U Enhanced. Thinking that it was likely only the drive-cage without a backplane I ordered it since with the 792351-001 I had an extra backplane. I was wrong! The part number referred to the assembly of the drive-cage and backplane.
As the following pictures will show the 686745-002 arrived with a backplane and it appears to be working flawlessly.
