HP Smart Array market

Recommended Posts

HP is now shipping a new generation of Smart Array RAID contollers;

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#spectype=north_america&type=html&docid=14624

This seems to be shifting the eBay market down for the last generation controllers, P420-P421-P222. This generation supported 6Gb/s SAS and SATA. These were generally $400+, but recently I have found controller/cache/capacitor for $275-$325.

Additionally, P410-P411-P212, these support 6Gb/s SAS and 3Gb/s SATA, running around $100-$125 for controller/cache/battery. Be sure to check the batteries, swelling/rounding indicates the battery is reaching the end of its life.

Fireballs are fun... as long as they're outside the computer case and well away of anything important. ;)

Schoondoggy:

  • Do you still have links for where you're seeing hp smart array p222/512mb fbwc in the ~$300 range?
  • Black Friday, Cyber Monday, & Christmas are all going to be here soon -- any insight on the best places to be looking for cards and "other things" like iLO keys etc?

Thanks,

Joe

Saved searches on eBay is an easy way to find deals.

Here are links to the last three HP SA controllers I have bought;

P222/512MB $275

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261303325710?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

P420/1GB $325

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131014201315?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

P421/2GB $300 untested, but they offer refunds

Ebay and Craigslist are always my starting point. Additionally, I do a Google search to see what the deals are on new.

I think this is the iLo Advanced that I bought;

Here are iLo Advanced for $25

With software like this, sealed is very important.
