Hi,

I'm currently thinking about replacing my HP Microservers with one or two of the above and just want check if anyone else here as taken the same path :)

The main reason for switching would be:

  • Official support for Xeon E3-12xx series CPU
  • Four DIMM banks with up to 32GB ram
  • Four 2.5" slots for my SSD drives
  • One additional 5.25" slot where I could place four slower 2.5" drives
  • 3 PCI slots for additional raid, networking, TV-tuners etc.
  • Two would take the same space as two microservers
  • About the same price (including the CPU swap and memory upgrade of Microserver)

Fujitsu builds a very nice server. I played with a similar model to this a couple of years ago.

The only issue I see is, as far as I can tell the 5.25" slot is just for a slim ODD. See page 29 in the user's guide;

Although the 3.5"/1.6" device bay directly under it should be able to hold some drives.

Yes you'r right, I didn't see that on the crappy picture I first got :( Not a big deal considering all the pro's all together but I would have liked to re-use all my storage in my existing Microserver(s).

I have to believe you could get one or maybe two 3.5" drives in the 3.5/1.6 bay. depending on the thickness of your drives.

Fujitsu also has a very good remote access function and software included on these.

Here is the upgrade and maintenance manual. All the options and procedures;

  • 3 months later...

I bought this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16859115019  Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX100 S2 Tower Server System Intel Core i3 540 3.06GHz 4GB ECC (2 x 2GB) 250G SATA II 3.5" 7200RPM VFY:T1002SX260US

Back in March of 2012 and it has been a great box for me.  Almost 2 years now and not a single issue.  Good box design and layout.  If the price is right, I could recommend it based on past experience.
