Power Consumption

Hi

Has anyone measured the power consumption of the G8 micro server?

Would like to upgrade from the N54L, but wondered if the new gen was a lot more power hungry...

I've tried google, but can't find anywhere that lists real-world figures.

Cheers

If you use legacy or AHCI with an SSD for the OS and 4 x 3TB WD RED drives and let the drives go into standby then it pulls ~28w but fan control is not ideal and stays above 33% which is too loud for a typical home lounge use.

When the drives are spinning with CPU idling it pulls around 42w.

In RAID mode the fan stays at ~6% but then drives don't spin down so pulls 42W.

In Hibernation it pulls about 3w which is more than the G7 series.

If using the add in RAID card P222/512 it then pulls around 62w.

Thanks for the info psikey. I could live with 62W... like leaving 1 light bulb on.

Many thanks for the info - it matches exactly what config I'm planning :D

28w is quite respectable for idle

Now have me curious as to my WS2012E server idle usage. On next reboot, will install my wattage meter. It's a workhorse ... Core i5 IB, 2 SSDs for OS mirror, 8 WD Red HDD RAID 6.

Did anyone measured the power consumption after upgrade of the CPU to Xeon 1265L V2?
