N54L Memory Compatibility

Hi Stangri,

 

If the RAM you bought is registered I believe you will have problems with it BUT just because it doesn't say UDIMM doesn't mean it is registered.  

 

Did you check out the MicroServer hardware links post J. Miner put up?  I think it has links/lists of RAM people have used successfully.

The Kingston in the link above is registered;

 

8GB 1066MHz Quad Rank Reg ECC x8 Module

 

It is not going to work in the N54L.

Thanks for the prompt replies, that's a bummer. Like many I've made a mistake thinking ECC = Registered. :(

 

At least I'll be able to use the RAM in my DL360. :)

That's a good point: ECC is ECC and isn't necessarily registered, although, it used to be unusual to find ECC that wasn't registered.

Thats what I thought at first too, it sucks since regd ECC seems cheaper than regular DDR3, and WAY cheaper than Unregistered ECC
