HP MS G8 2.5" drive bracket, revision history, New REV 3.5 and Rev 4 info

Were you able to fit both where the ODD sits or did you need to place one in the back above the fan?

I put both where the ODD sits, no brackets etc so it's not an ideal solution if the server is going to be transported etc. It's a bit tight but no problems.

The only problem is the fan noise (not related directly to this, iLO firmware bug) which is why my Gen8 is powered off and my old N36L runs the business :(

Schoondoggy,

Once you have the nuances worked out, I'll order one from you if you're interested in selling them.

I'd love to move my two 80GB VRaptors from the Gen7 to my Gen8 when it arrives, and keep the same drive setup my Gen7 has.

I am trying to get some prototypes built by a local sheet metal company, but it is not easy. My drafting skills have come a long way!

I got a chance to test out a beta copy of the Schoondoggy Gen8 Drive Mount: The Schoondoggy Gen8 Drive Mount for the HP ProLiant Gen8 MicroServer First Look

It is one piece of great Hardware that I've really enjoyed working with!

NOTE: The Forward cable that I used to attach the 2 VRs on the SGDM-SDM is a StarTech Model SAS8087S450 19" (50cm) Serial Attached SCSI SAS Cable - SFF-8087 to 4x Latching SATA   to the B120i on the System Board.  Any Forward cable that will work on a RR2720SGL will work.

WOW! That is a fantastic post, thank you for all the work you did on this.

I have taken the input from the beta tests and applied them to the design.

I have a meeting with my mfg guy to get another set of brackets built.

If those check out, I will see about taking this to production.

Thanks guys!  It was/is a pleasure to study the SGDM!  It's a wonderful device that really adds a lot to the MicroServer................

I just wanted to note that if someone watches only one of the four videos in the report to be sure to watch the 2nd one (i.e. Part 2) -- the second half of that video does an install of the SGDM into the MicroServer followed by how to remove it (which probably has additional pointers on doing an install)
