First thoughts on MS G8

On boot up it is very evident that this is a real Proliant server.

I think it looks great;

There is room for one VR drive in the top;

But I think I could make a bracket to put two VR's on the side and still have the ODD up top;

I did not have time to throw any drives in the box, but going into the RAID controller it show 6 SATA ports. I would have expected 5. Is the microSD card slot on the SATA bus?

Beautiful Pictures Schoondoggy!!!!!!!!!!   Would love to see more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So.....  3 VR's in RAID0 would make a VERY nice OS drive :)

What mods are you planning?  Card(s)  etc?

Looks great SchoonDoggy!!

I didn't know how much smaller the new one was until I saw your side by side pic.  The more I see of them the more the new design grows on me.  How is noise level on new vs old?

I still think the front panel should be painted, but that's just me.....

HP was showing off different color doors at some time or another but I don't know if they were ever (or will be) released.

I LOVE the stackable matching switch HP offers.

I have this idea for a black-on-black multi-shaded paintjob, getting lighter from bottom to top of the door: subtle, but noticeable.

Should we bring some sheet metal, screws, and equipment to the meetup for a Gen8 hackathon?

I hope to have my 'dual drive side mount bracket' ready for production by then!

Replaced the memory with two 8GB DDR3-1600 ECC Unbuffered modules;

HYNIX HMT41GU7MFR8C-PB from Memory America. You can replace the memory with out removing the motherboard;

Seems to be working fine so far;

I was able to install the RAID card without removing the motherboard as well;

If you plan on installing a ODD, don't forget it is a thin 9.5mm not the usual 12.7mm

I still need to find the mounting clip for the ODD drive to hold it in place.
