I ran into BIOS conflicts with LSI and Adaptec cards on N40L.

If you are OK with used cards, I have had great luck with the Smart Array P410. Here is some info on my N40L;

Some good info there schoondoggy.  Nice box you put together there.  Would be nice to have some of those features you have.

I'm using WHS 2011 also but I have flashed the BIOS to the one discussed here by Diehard.  Have you heard of any issues with the P410 and the flashed BIOS?

And what do you think are the low prices that this card can be had for, with the cache memory and battery so I can do RAID 5 with it?  Yes I am OK with used cards because I'd like to get a low price.

What kind of issues did you have with the Adaptec card?

And that special SATA connector for the four bays in the N40L snaps right on to this card?

I've moved the stock 250gb drive to the now full speed ODD connector.

I have not tried the P410 with the Mod BIOS, I think some have successfully.

I usually end up with a P410 512MB and battery for $160.

You want to find a low profile card. There are several on eBay currently with 256MB for under $100. You would still want to add the battery.

For the price of the battery you could get a 512MB module, cable and battery;

Just do a eBay search for HP P410.

The issues I had with LSI and Adaptec was that I was unable to enter the controllers BIOS during boot.

If I booted off a separate drive, I could configure the controller from the OS based tools.

The connector for the 4 bay plugs directly into the P410.

One thing the note, the P410 runs SAS drives at 6Gb/s, but SATA at 3Gb/s. In my other post you can see the benchmarks.

Thanks for the pricing.

What kind of battery is it?  HP Proprietary? Rechargeable?

It looks substantial in size, where do you place that thing in the Microserver?

I'm not near my server right now but I thought there was a special connector for the 4 drive bays.  How is that connected to this card?

AFAIK, the connector is a standard SFF8087. Many RAID cards accept this connector.

the battery is HP proprietary and rechargeable.

I think mine is hidden behind the HP light and under the ODD bay.
