setting a N40Lup to sleep/hibernate in Linux from the start

I'm planning to reinstall the OS on my N40L and want to set it up so that I can sleep/hibernate it overnight. I'll be doing a fresh install of Debian, is there anything specific I need to look out for when doing the install so I can get it working as easily as possible?

I doubt it will matter but I'll be running it headless so don't need to worry about X and I'll be running some configuration of RAID on the storage disks but not on the OS disk.
