samuk
Hi, What speed memory Dimms will a NL40 take? I had modded the bios to support 16GB so will be popping 2 8GB's in there.. Thanks Edited June 17, 2013 by samuk
cskenney
First post has a section on RAM http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/5190-microserver-hardware-links/. There are a number of links that should point you in the right direction. There is also a discussion in this thread on using 16GB RAM in the Microservers http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4603-16-gb-ram-for-n36l-vs-n40l/ On the Home Server Show blog there are a number of posts by John Stutsman (Joe_Miner) about his Microservers. He discusses which RAM he has tested in his boxes and issues he has encountered.

ikon
Agreed. I really, really strongly suggest you stick with RAM that others have tried and proven works. The N40Ls seem to be somewhat picky about RAM and I wouldn't want you to get stuck with some non-working DIMMs.
samuk
Order the Kingston as suggested in the other links : http://www.ebuyer.com/186669-kingston-8gb-1333mhz-ddr3-ecc-cl9-dimm-kit-of-2-with-thermal-kvr1333d3e9sk2-8g Edited June 17, 2013 by samuk

cskenney
mega pissed off! thought i had ordered 2 x 8GB... After installing realized they are 4GB x 2! aaahhhhhhhh Reading the specs in your link above it definitely says 2 x 4GB. 8GB works perfectly fine with WHS2011...and you may find out that 16GB isn't reliable in your box. cskenney
Btw- the BIOS mod has nothing to do with the RAM.
