Hit the link and play the video on there.  It can explain better than I can.

For starters, better power (lower) consumption and more efficient use of power controlled from the CPU and not the MOBO.  6 each (up) USB 3.0 and 6Gbps SATA ports.  Need more?

What are benefits over Ivy Bridge?

Nothing for the average user on a desktop / server. Its really geared towards portables.

Need more?

Yes

If I were using Ivy Bridge then I would see no reason to upgrade, but since I'm still on Sandy Bridge, it's time to move.  If you wait around for the perfect time to upgrade, you'll never do anything.

Having said that, I will still wait for a couple of months to to get a lay of the land.

Now, trying to figure this out .....and deciding what to buy for a new ESXi server.

I think Haswell will be great for tablets and laptops. Of course it will have the performance to run ESXi, but if you are building a server, why not head down the server path? Are you considering using a XEON E3 V3 Gen based on Haswell technology?

I guess in the end, it all depends on what matches to the VMWare HCL.
