Do you need to use Gigabit NIC's?

I have been playing with Sophos, pfSense, Untangle and I always seem to end up using Gigabit port NIC's. I found a quad 10/100 NIC in my inventory and built a Sophos box with it and a small pc. It works great. As long as my internet service stays below 100Mb is there any reason to use Gigabit ports? I assume if I were routing traffic on my network I would want Gigabit, but I can not think of any other reason.

Unless you're one of those extremely fortunate people who has super fast internet at home, I can't think of any real reason why you would need a Gb NIC for your WAN link.

Lol, my pfsense firewall is virtualised using legacy nics so they're pushing through at around 20-30mbps! As stated above just make sure the nics can keep up with your connection speed.
