I'm really thinking about getting this 27" IPS from AOC

That makes a lot of sense. Both of my Dell 30" UltraSharp monitors require dual link. I think most higher end monitors do.

Does dual link just mean you have two cables coming from the gpu to connect to the monitor?

Nope. It's still a single DVI cable. It's just that more of the pins are used. You can see the difference in some Single Link cables - they only have the number of pins actually required for single link. Other Single Link cables have all the pins regardless, so it's harder to tell with them. When buying a Dual Link DVI cable, make sure to check.

If only all the manufacturers used the connectors as diagramed in that article. Unfortunately, simply having a cable with all the pins is no guarantee that it's actually wired up fully for Dual Link. You've got to be vigilant.

Thanks for the description. What sucks is that most of the docking stations don'thave dvi so it is difficult to find HD monitors that the docking station supports.

The docking stations we use at work are all Dell and every one of them has 2 DVI ports of them.  I know my dock that I use is about 5 years old now (I am on my second laptop with the same dock) and has 2 DVI ports.

I looked at that display too.  I am just curious if there is any advantage to this display over the one that is $85 cheaper?  Or are you just saying there is a similar display that has all the input options that people are looking for?

Also, I think you are using the Dell 30" IPS monitors.  What are your thoughts on these displays from Monoprice?

Just the inputs the panels are the same. Though some are able to overclock the more expensive panel if you get a certain rev.

I ordered 3 of these for a customer, the panels themselves are really nice. the rest of ot is a bit meh (cheap) but hey they have to cut corners somewhere. These are glossy panels compared to my dell's matte, it also has an anit glare coating. So its a bit difficult to compare. Would I buy one...maybe. I really prefer the 30" size I have now especially for gaming. I would use 3 of these at work if I had the room ;)

Must admit, I too prefer 30" panels, and I really dislike glossy ones, especially large panels.
