Windows 8 auto-mounts ISO files

This is probably old news to many, but I suspect there are others who, like me, weren't aware. I went to install MS Office 2013 on my Surface Pro. I was going to mount the Office ISO using a tool like MagicDisc. I couldn't recall if I'd already installed an ISO tool, so I double-clicked the ISO to see what happened.

To my surprise, Windows 8 opened the ISO just like Windows 7 opens a ZIP file. I was able to launch the setup file and install Office without issue. So, no special ISO add-in tools required.  Very nice :)

Yeah they talked a lot about how it is native in Windows 8. Glad to hear it worked as one would expect.

Yeah, that's been there since the beta. :)

And yeah, it's totally nice. One less piece of software that I need to install! :)

Yes, windows 8 included native .iso and .vhd support, a gigantic step in the right direction. It was many of those "under the hood" improvements to windows that a lot of windows 8 reviewers and skeptics never seen to acknowledge as being a huge step up over windows 7.
