N40L AHCI Mode & SSD

I just installed a Samsung 840 SSD in my N40L using the modified BIOS version 041. I have done a clean install of Windows 7 64bit and checked in the BIOS that AHCI is enabled and that TRIM is enabled in the BIOS.

However, Samsung Magician is reporting that AHCI is deactivated. Can anyone please suggest what I need to check as there are alot of settings available in the modified BIOS.

Many thanks!

What you may be seeing is an anomoly between the Samsung tool and a modded BIOS.  Just a guess.

I've fixed it! I discovered from Joe_Miner's excellent guide:

http://homeservershow.com/hp-microserver-n40l-build-and-bios-modification.html

In bios under Chipset / SouthBridge Configuration / SB Sata Configuration

Disable “SATA IDE Combined Mode” – sets port 5 and 6 to use AHCI

(the motherboard port for the ODD (Optical Disk Drive) and the eSATA port on the back of the case).

Not sure if there is a typo  as it says elsewhere in the article that these are ports 4 and 5.

Anyway that's the critical setting for enabling AHCI on the motherboard SATA port.
