thewatergate
Raspberry Pi, VPN. Remotely located. The problem with cloud based backups is it is difficult to restore large amounts of data if you have a disk failure. Additionally the monthly fees add up. I set up a raspberry pi with a Samba server and openvpn. I located the rpi at a relative's house across the country. If I have a disk failure all he has to do is to FedEx me the drive. It was simple to set up. None of the other solutions such as pogo, drobo nor Sonology have the easy ability to run a VPN. Moreover this is cheaper. Speed is not the issue because of typical Internet speeds.
