Just doing some more digging to try and help others out...so far in the client file %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs\ConnectorUpdate*.txt I get:

So it seems it had a problem checking version and downloading a file.  Interesting as that message still exists after I manually reinstalled.  So the problem still exists for me to troubleshoot.

I have on premise Exchange...but that wasn't affected.

Just added another client, a remote family member's Windows 7 x64 laptop, controlled using LogMeIn, for an overnight backup.  100GB will take about a day to do that first backup.

Given I already have the roll-up installed on the WS2012E, installing the client was uneventful (no domain join). Still no reboot required (since no connector had ever been previously installed), and first automatic full backup started within a minute or two of the simple install.

Does anyone know if once installed, non-domain (but joined) clients that used the previous version of the Connector will have issues until the connector software is upgraded?  Right now, I just want to ensure backups continue, as it may take a few days for me to get time to update the client systems.

LoneWolf, yes, my non-domain clients all took the rollup seamlessly/easily with no errors, but I did have to do that DNS workaround again (stop and disable that LAN reconfiguration service, and make sure DNS was from DHCP again, on all connected clients).

DHCP is being provided by my router (with primary DNS as the server IP), so I don't think that will be an issue for me.

Thanks for the information, Tinkerer

Yeah, my workaround is more about trying to remove any dependency on my WS2012E for all client computer's web surfing. Not a fan of having to ask numerous family members for a "change control" window just to reboot my server (during which time they cannot surf).

This especially holds true for those systems that aren't in my home, where I'd much rather those systems use local DNS, fed by DHCP from their own routers.
