I'm not aware of any later releases.

Not sure where I read it now. It was some comment that the release version was notably faster than the previews. I am looking at FlexRAID now as an option... anybody played with SnapRAID?..

AFAIK, the latest posts re: StorageSpaces performance issues are about the RTM version, and I don't think it's really changed.

Drive Bender has worked wonderfully in one of my Microservers.

Yes, you can create multiple pools with StableBit DrivePool.

Also, you can use SSDs as a cache drive with DrivePool (there is an add-in to do it, and it calls it a "landing zone" and recommends having 2 SSDs if you duplicate data)

Oh, and here is the "original" blog post from them about the balancers.

http://blog.covecube.com/2012/09/stablebit-drivepool-balancing-plug-ins-and-scanner-integration/

There are a bunch of settings built in, but there are two "add-ins" for it available seperately. The "Archiver" one... which is the one that uses a "landing zone" type setup, and would benefit a lot from a couple of SSDs for "cache" drives basically.

The other balancer add-in is for balancing the used/free space between drives.

The only caveat is that right now, those two balancer add-ons are not avaible for the "generic windows" version of DrivePool... they're the WHS2011 style installers (WSSX), but as the beta progress, the plan is to add them.

That balancer stuff is already available for the 1.x line (aka the WHS2011/SBS2011E/WSSE) line. And I don't know about the windows version... but on my SBS2011E server, I get 80-100MB/s read consistently
