Roger that,

I will check them out.

Even the 250GB drives are hard to find appears the new minimum is 500GB

I remember that my first PC had a 20MB hard drive

One last question, which is now totally unrelated to the topic heading.

Is there any special requirements for the HS Windows OS drive, should I invest in a more reliable enterprise drive or would a garden variety Seagate Baracuda be ok ??

Pricing is about $50 for a Baracuda Drive and $150 for a Constellation Drive .

I don't mind spending the money for reliability but not if it is a waste of money for no measurable benefit.

Thanks

I have 4x2TB WD RE4 enterprise drives for my RAID5 Data Pool, but I'm just using regular desktop drives for my WHS2011 OS. The OS drives are mirrored. I think that will give greater reliability.

Hi ikon

Where and how did you mount the two OS drives in the server,

Also what did you connect the 6th drive to ?. Are you using an additional SATA PCI card

Pretty sure i can fit the two 3.5" drives stacked in the 5.25" space but interested to how you, or anyone else has done this.

Thanks

Shane

Just an update.

Loaded the Solar software on the WHS2011 N54L machine and it runs like a dream.

Only uses about 2% of CPU power.

The home security camera system software also loaded and run ok but used 50% of CPU so that one needs rethinking.

Thanks everyone for your comments

Shane

Have you considered using 2x2.5" drives for the OS?  A sixth one can be mounted on the back on the backplane cage.

If you are wondering about the connection for the 6th drive, some people have run an eSATA to SATA cable from the back connector to inside the box.  This would allow a 6th drive in the case but it eliminates your ability to use an external box for expansion using the eSATA port.
