joem
I have an external eSata toaster. I was wondering if I ran a WD Red 3 T hard disk in that, open air, and on steady all the time if there would be issues with that? I want to change my Windows Essentials Server 2012 Server backup destination to backup to that drive every night. Thanks.
ImTheTypeOfGuy
Most drives I have seen in an external cradle get very warm so I don't leave mine on.
jcollison
I run the WD Greens inside the Drobo and never turn the Drobo off. It does manage them when they are not in use, but they have never gotten too hot to worry about. You could always try and monitor for a few hours to see

jcollison
It does and it is quiet. Forgot about that
ikon
From my experience of that past few days, I think you can leave a Red drive in a dock 24/7. They are the coolest running drives I have ever used. I haven't tried this experiment yet myself, but I would be interested in your experience. schoondoggy
It is always a good idea to have some air moving over a drive.
ImTheTypeOfGuy
I think they are called toasters for a reason.
ikon
I think they are called toasters for a reason. Normally I agree. Hence why I have a fan on the one I use for my WHS2011 Server Backup drive. However, it's beginning to look to me that the Red drives may be an exception.
