g725s 17 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) I just read a post that states that Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) can be installed in WHS 2011. Here...http://www.avforums....3649-post2.html Has anyone tried this? If your not interested in following the link, this is what it reads... "Just want to remind people that MSE can be installed on WHS 2011 if you need an antivirus Copy the mseinstall (x64 version) file to your WHS desktop or a folder on the desktop Using command prompt navigate to the directory where the mseinstall is and type: mseinstall /disableoslimit Alternatively, press shift while right clicking the folder you placed the installer in (select "Open Command Window Here") and type the same command as above " Edited December 25, 2012 by g725s
jmwills 284 Posted December 25, 2012 And remember the Command Prompt is "tab aware" so no need for all that typing!! CD <space> find the directory folder and hit enter. Rinse and repeat until you get to the desired folder.

Technogod 8 Posted December 25, 2012 OMG, Why did it take so long for somebody to post this? Thanks g725s
jmwills 284 Posted December 25, 2012 Yep, seems to work out perfectly.
g725s 17 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) Why has this been under wraps for so long? I know that a guy who builds HTPCs posted he's been doing this for nearly two years. But he would not let out how it is done. jmwills, why not just navigate to the .exe you put in a folder on your desktop, press shift while right clicking the folder you placed the installer in (select "Open Command Window Here") and type the command ? Not really sure what your saying about the command prompt. Edited December 25, 2012 by g725s
jmwills 284 Posted December 25, 2012 You can do that. Not many people know the "Tab Aware" feature in the Command Prompt. Helps when you you have to go 7 or 8 folders deep.
g725s 17 Posted December 25, 2012 jmwills, Do you think it is a good idea to install MSE on WHS 2011 this way? Do you see it in add/remove programs so it could be fully uninstalled if wanted?
jmwills 284 Posted December 25, 2012 It's there. That "disable......" is an interesting switch. I have some other thing to try that on.
g725s 17 Posted December 25, 2012 It's working for me now too.
