Putting a Windows 8 machine to sleep through remote access?

Recommended Posts

I use my whs 2011 computer to remote connect to my desktop machine a lot from work. When I had Windows 7 I could use the "Windows Security" (right above shut down button) to either restart or put my computer to sleep before terminating the remote connection. Since I have moved to windows 8 I have not seen a Windows Sercurity option or any other way to restart or put the computer to sleep. Is there a way to do this with Windows 8?

I have the same question. Although, I have had my suspicions about how long the features would be available. MS didn't exactly make it easy to find them. Moving them to the Security menu item isn't exactly intuitive. It would not surprise me that they're now gone.

on the Windows 8 desktop in Remote Terminal mode I hit Alt-F4 together to shut down or restart Win 8 on a remote machine.

or from a command prompt type:

shutdown -r -t 5

-r = reboot

-t = time

5 = 5 seconds (can be of your liking)
