cant install windows server 2012 essentials or win 8

Recommended Posts

i have an older PC that used to have whs v1, then i put whs 2011 on it. Recently crashed having a hard drive go bad, so now i am trying to install essentials on it.

cpu is athlon 64 3700+

motherboard asus a8n5x

install hangs on blue logo, exactly like this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itproinstall/thread/f3846fb7-0db9-446d-bc8c-33d34ff47122

from the thread i tried to install win8 32bit and yes that worked fine.

my main goal is backups, but wanted to use essentials for other features but can live without them.

1. wait until there is some type of fix for the install of 64 bit

2. use win8 32 bit as some type of home server

3. use whs v1

4. use whs 2011

i have a mix of win xp, windows 7, windows 8 machines

The first thing I would advise is to make sure the BIOS is up to date. I have also seen posts about running the setup in another box to a point and then finishing it in the troublesome box.

As jmwills stated, I would start the install on a different box and move it to the final box during the first reboot.

P.s. IIRC 2012 essentials cannot backup XP machines, so u might want to check on that before using 2012. If you want a domain controller and want to backup XP machines, I would check out she 2011 essentials.
