Streaming Inside The Network

In theory your 2011 box should be faster. Lose the 10/100 switches, and make sure you are not using things like home group. Your ATV's should have a dedicated user name and password to be shared among the 4 units points to specific shares.

Agreed, eventually lose the 10/100 gear but to test to see where the bottleneck is, I would connect everything to it for the short term.

Totally agree about the router -- do NOT make it the center or your LAN. If it's your internet gateway, as you seem to suggest, it should have only 1 Ethernet link to your LAN, and that should be to your switch. Everything else should also connect to the switch. The path between any 2 devices on your LAN should be a single hop across your switch. This is the ideal configuration. It isn't possible in every situation, but it should be the goal.

Update.

I replaced the 10/100 switch with a gigabit switch. Placed everything I could on the new switch and the network lag seems to be gone.

Hooray!
