IE 9 in WHS 2011

Recently there was an option to install IE 9; I accepted, but it has caused me some grief. My Highpoint RAID card utility uses a Webgui, After I upgraded to IE 9, I always got an error when I started the utility. Rolling back to IE 8 is no simple task (at least for me), I thought I might try Chrome or Firefox, but WHS 2011 security made it a chore to do that. I had to jump through security hoops to do that. I finally got Firefox to download and install. With Firefox, I was able to download and install Chrome. The utility runs in both of those browsers. Now I can run the RAID utility!

Turn off IE Enhanced security if you haven't already. http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/2266-highpoint-rocket-raid-2680-installation-issue/#entry23437

However, there have been some IE9 specific issues (in the thread from HSS above you can see the discussion.) PCDoc discuses some best practices on his site: http://thedocsworld.net/raid-5-expansion/

I prefer to download the installer on another PC and just move it to a folder on 2011. Then RDP and install. Go around IE. Seems quicker to me

I agree with Jim, as that is what I do. Have you updated you Highpoint software to the latest version? I do not have an issue with IE9 but I have heard of many that do and have resolved it by doing the security setting that timekills referenced. As alternative, use the technique that Jim describes and install Chrome as it treats security different and will not give any problems. Remember though that both of those solutions open the browser up to gain more access and so you want to avoid browsing or downloading from your server for security reasons. Removing IE9 is also very simple. Just go to your control panel and review installed updates and your can remove it,

Be careful about not having a version of IE installed. It is the only way you will get Windows Updates, afaik.
