Home Server Status - .NET error

Recommended Posts

prmusic

Hi.

I got Home Server Status 3.0.7. running without problems on 3 of my Win7 PC's (64bit and 32bit)´. However one Laptop running Win7 32bit doesn't like HSS 3.0.7. During startup I'm getting a .NET error which refers to HSS.

If I'm uninstalling version 3.0.7 and use 3.0.3 instead it works. I don't think that it is a specific HSS issue as I got it on another Win7 32bit PC running without any issues but I am curious if someone got an advice.

Thx

prmusic

I am just taking a guess but what version of .NET do you have installed on the various computer? I am willing to bet that the problem laptop is running older versions of .NET.

Just guessing.

Most likely you are correct. The client needs version 3.5 installed.

I created Home Server Status with the use of .NET v4.x. After verifying your .NET version, and if you are using 4.x, attempt a repair. If HSS still gives you a problem, let me know. But on thing you can attempt to do after all else fails, is to delete the settings.xml file located in c:\programdata\home server status. Deleting this file will require you to re-enter you registration info, etc.

Hi Jerry,

sorry for not coming back on this for a long time - I was busy with other topics :-)

Actually the problem hasn't solved. In the meanwhile I got it on another Win7 client as well. One is 32bit the other is 64bit.

Here are the details from the .NET error message. Sorry but it is in German.

Are you able to find out what went wrong?

Thanks

Hi Jerry,

will you fix the issue with the .Net?

Still got problems with it. Reinstall doesn't work. Get issue in the meanwhile on a second machine.

1 machine HSS is getting a .Net error on every start. HSS is not showing up, can't edit settings. I can see it in the processes butz I can't do anything with it.

this is a Win 7 32bit machine.

Get .Net errors now on a secon machine (Win7 63bit). On this machine the error is not coming up always.

Very inconvenient.

Thanks

prmusic, you are reaching a conclusion that may very well not be true. Your issue might be with .Net itself, not HSS. That said, perhaps Jerry can find a way to work around issues with .Net, if that is the issue.

Ikon,

thanks for that hint. But Jerry mentioned in another thread that there are problems with .NET.

Therefore I believe I am not the only one. I followed the guidance to repair .NET without success. Even

unistall and re-install of HSS didn't help.

I can understand that due to the fact that this is not happening on all Computers it is likely that it is not HSS

having the issue but but I didn't got any other .NET issues with the machine.

Now I got another machine starting having problems with it.

As Jerry didn't reponded to my posting I was just asking if there are any news.

Guys,

here is an update on the actions to get 3.07 run:

- .Net 4.0 repair -> no success

- .Net 4.0 reinstall -> no success

- install of 3.08 -> crashes when starting the program (appears in the task manger and disappears after a few seconds)

- install of 3.06 -> I was allowed to enter my registration data and right now it seems to run

This brings me back to the assumption that there is something wrong with 3.07 under certain conditions.

For now I'm running with 3.06 on the trouble machines which is fine, deactivated the search for updates to not get 3.07 proposed all the time.

If you ran 3.08 on anything other than Windows 8 with a Windows 2012 Essentials server, then of course, it will crash. That install was not and is stated not to work with WSH2011. I cannot speak to 'certain conditions' but I can say that 3.07 has been out for quite some time, with no reported problems. I cannot tell you how many people have pointed the finger at HSS in the past to merely find out that it was either their computer, network, server, etc. that was the problem.
