RDP Problem

I current have four clients connected to my WHS 2011. The Launchpad works just fine on all four, RDP works on only three. On the fourth, I get the error message: "The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login.".

I'm using Administrator for all right now. I get the error before I'm given the logon window. I can't remember if I got that window earlier and it remembered it. The client that has a problem uses Win 7 Home Premium. Two that do work have the same, Another that works has Win 8 Release Preview, BTW, I'm the only one ion the household who uses the system.

Perhaps I'm confused about terminology. That's not unusual! I'm not talking about connecting via the internet. I mean going to Windows Explorer > Network and right clicking on the <server name> icon. A window pops up that includes an item "Connect with Remote Desktop Connection" I can do that on my other clients that run the same version of Win 7 and also the Win8 client. I get a screen that looks like the desktop on WHS 2011. I can then look at my RAID card utility, check the sync program, etc.

Connecting via the internet is something I've yet to address. The automatic setup by WHS 2011 failed, even though UPnP is enabled on my router.

RDP is "Remote Desktop Connection". Oh...disable UPnP since that is a huge security risk. You only need to open ports 80, 443, and 4125.

I did find this site:

http://www.hoffsays.com/2012/01/09/enable-remote-desktop-connection-on-windows-7-home-premium-sp1/

but cannot vouch as to whether or not the hack will work.

This site will probably be reputable since it comes from Phillip Churchill.

I just set up my router by using the web site at:

http://www.xiirus.net/articles/article-windows-home-server-2011-and-dlink-dir655-ex8ko.aspx

I logged on via the browser using https://<my ID>.homeserver.com

I get a page: Remote Web Access: Home for <name>

I then try to connect to WHS and after trying to log in, I get an error that the user is not authorized for remote login whenI used an account other than Administrator. The login with Administrator works OK. Does that mean I should be able to log in while traveling?

Well I was able log on as Administrator. I'll read more carefully abd try to do what the sites say about Home editions of Win 7 later.

You need to go to the user properties on the server and gran that user RDP Access.

I don't think that RDP is available from Premium, so it's not the server blocking it but rather the inability of the client.

You can initiate (i.e. be a Client of) RDP connections from any version of Windows 7. I've done it from Home Premium tons of times. However, by design at least, only Win7 Pro and above can be RDP Servers.
