OK. The drive you're backing up to isn't part of the backup scope is it? By that I mean, the backup isn't trying to back up the backup drive is it?

no the drive i am backing up to is an external USB drive. I just put a brand new 500gb hard disk in one of my external cases. i am trying to set it to back up C: (WHS2011) D: (wind7) which are on the same 500gb internal drive. I have only used 120gb on the internal drive and the external is clean.

meant to say 120gb used.sorry

Did you use the home screen of the WHS 2011 Dashboard and select Set up Server Backup? If so, you shouldn't be able to see the drive letter of the Server Backup?

You can upload a photo to a site like photobucket and paste a link to it in your post by clicking on the image button (11th one from left in the bottom row of icons in the Compose Box).
