Microsoft Online Backup Storage Beta

Actually better idea that I will be working on today, server 8 has the iscsi trarget role. So can then have it homst the drives for a thin whs2011 build. Whs thinks it owns the drive but in reality owned by server 8 with is drive pooling, data dedup, and now online storage

Except then you won't have your data duplicated.

http://cloudvirtualization.wordpress.com/2011/09/14/windows-8-server-to-have-iscsi-target-data-deduplication-server-roles/

per the article it appears the data on the iscsi volumes would still be able to be data deduped. interesting compared to recoverpoint for offsite dr for less than mission critical storage (dev and qas enviorments)

I've never played with iSCSI. I may give it a go when Server 8 is released.

Just tried the MS online backup. Very elegant interface and very powerful scheduling options. Seemed a bit slow but overall I really like this. 10G for the trial. This is like cloudberry on steroids.

Could this be another case of the Microsoft Tortoise and the Apple Hare?

Do not really see Apple playing in this market. This is more challenging S3, Crashplan, Keepvault. Depending on price, this will be a great product.

I thought Apple was now offering an online backup service but can't remember what it's called.

They have one for the IOS devices and a data sync of sorts (limited apps) but in the way that this attacks it.
