Any good deals on external drives? I need to replace my wife's (she is more comfortable backing up her pictures and stuff onto an external drive herself) , so I'm trying to find a deal on a external in the 1.5-2 TB range and swap out the drive for a 250GB that i currently have in the EX470.

AJ, or anyone else, what external drive(s) so you recommend? Also, is there any backup software on these drives that you think works well? I'm thinking of buying one just to play around with so I can get an idea on what to recommend to people.

A couple of things I look for:
ventilation - make sure it has a fan if it's a 3.5" fan
warranty - I'd look for something >1 year. I don't know if you can
speed - eSATA if at all possible. Even if you don't have one now, you might in the future. More and more laptops have them

Looking at the Newegg sale ads is like being a kid and looking at the Christmas catalog. So many things I HAVE to have, so little money!

Thanks AJ. That's a good idea to look at the warranty. But I'm looking for specific model recommendations based upon users experience with included backup/sync software. I don't know much about these units, never having owned one. More specifically, I need to be able to recommend something to family and friends that is easy to use. Yes, I know you can always drag and drop, but if there is a half-way decent software backup/sync solution to an external drive, I'd like to hear what it is.

Hey, this is a note about a specific hard drive deal posted on the site. There is a lot of discussion/controversy concerning the following model:

Western Digital Caviar Green WD15EARS 1.5TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

While there seems to be no problem for Vista/Windows 7 users, I see that XP users are having problems with this drive. I would guess that this would also go for an older OS such as WHS.

Thoughts?
