Using iCloud Photo Stream on vacation

Recommended Posts

Dave

I have a plan of attack for my photos on my up coming vacation. I'm going to try using iCloud's Photo Stream. All photos from my 4s will upload as soon as I connect to wifi. I'll pull the day's photos off of my DSLR and put into iPhoto which will also upload. My WHS 2011 has Photo Stream on it and will start pulling the photos down immediately and put them into my Pictures folder on the server. Then, if that wasn't enough, KeepVault and CrashPlan will upload them every night. Kinda crazy huh?

I'm also adding another big directory to Crashplan since I'll be out for an extended period of time and allowing CP to upload 24/7. My DSL modem will probably melt!

My issue with PhotoStream was that you can't delete photos from the stream. I didn't keep the 4S long enough

to know if you could move them from the originating device out of the stream, etc.

Yes, that was a horrible omission on Apple's part. They did finally update the service so you could delete. I have yet to really use the service due to bandwidth issues. If a phone or iPad started uploading photos it would crater my DSL. And....stupid on my part, I showed my 4 year old how to screen cap on the iPad. He is taking shots of every screen in his games! Dozens per day. What was I thinking?
