HP ProLiant MicroServer N40L 5th SATA

Is the 5th SATA of the N40L set to the same speed of the other SATA ports? I know on the N36L the 5th SATA was derated in speed -- I haven't seen any info on upgradint the speed of the N40L so was wondering if it wasn't necessary.

Thanks,

I believe that by default, no.

However some ambitious folks have come up with a BIOS upgrade that changes this. Check out http://www.bios-mods...er-AMI-BIOS-MOD

Reading their thread it's hard to tell what exactly they've come up with. They didn't discuss enabling AHCI for the 5th & 6th SATA ports.

I did find some interesting info at http://www.avforums.com/forums/networking-nas/1521657-hp-n36l-microserver-updated-ahci-bios-support.html

There's some interesting information at http://andysworld.org.uk/tag/hp-proliant-microserver-n36l/ where "Andy" has 5 microservers running ESXi5.0 -- I'm finding his write-ups interesting too.

Ok, I did try the BIOS update a few weeks ago and I believe there was an option to change that port from 1.5gb to 3.0. But I can't confirm right now, my server is busy. I'll report later.

I'll also check out the Andy site.

Thanks, no rush -- my extra RAM isn't in yet. I'm still trying to understand the use for the USB port on the MB.

I've read where some have set the USB to contain their OS and boot from that leaving all their SATA drives for data.

I did downloaded BIOS from both sites -- I haven't opened the RAR's yet.

I installed the BIOS and changed the option for the Southbridge to disable IDE on port 4/5, after rebooting my PC, I got a message that it's adding new devices. Now under Device Manager IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, I get ATA Channel 0,1,2,3,4,5, Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA controller.

Not sure if this helps you.

Sounds encouraging, no?

Looking good!

Thanks Dieharder! Not sure if I'll get to it today we have company coming over and I'm under orders to clean up the man-cave before they get here :)

What did you think of "Andy's" site?

I have been running the WHS1 pack 3 for many years.  Unfortunately it is no longer working.  I got a Proliant microserver Gen10 hoping it will run it but was unable to install the software.  The software should run on most older PCs?

Does anyone have the WHS1 running on the Gen10?  Also my WHS1 iso is Pack 1.  If I manage to install the Pack 1 can I find on the web the upgrade to pack 3?  Would I be forever stuck at Pack 1?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi I am new to forum.

I have an HPE 40L Microserver and would like to upgrade the motherboard to something a bit more modern.

From what is can find on this topic it would appear that the motherboard is mini-ITX like but not exactly. Has anyone ever resolved upgrading this with something new that works or should I just replace the server?

      Thx in advance

      Hey guys,

Has anyone around here been successful in setting up Proxmox on a Gen8 using a HBA for storage?

      Hey guys,

Bit of a random question here, and I know it depends on many factors such as what they are doing etc, but how many VMs have you guys comfortably ran on Gen8 with an E3-1265v2 and 16GB RAM? When did you start to see a performance hit compared to what the Gen8 is generally capable of?

      Hi,

I’m looking for the latest Proliant SPP for Gen. 8 servers.

      I’ve got a MicroServer, a DL360e and a DL380e which I’d love to update.

Has anyone got the latest SPP that wouldn’t mind sharing?

      Thank you!
