Ray over at osquest.net has picked up a Synology DS212j and is writing some articles about it. Really good coverage.

The Synology DS212j NAS is at the low-end of the Synology DiskStation “Personal and Home Office” product line, at least among the models that support RAID. There are less expensive one-bay models. Synology has an interesting product line that is more like a home server than a NAS, thanks to the bundled DiskStation Manager (DSM) software. I decided to give it a look and this is my initial impression, having spent about a day working with it.

I've bolded an interesting point Ray brings up in the article, twice actually. Give the site a read and add it to your RSS reader. You won't regret it.

DS212j on Newegg - http://www.newegg.co...08095&Tpk=ds212 $219.99

DS211 on Newegg - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822108065 $199.99 Great price on the older box that has USB 2.0. The 212 series has USB 3.0 Correction, the 212j has USB 2.0. http://www.synology.com/products/spec.php?product_name=DS212j&lang=us#p_submenu The 212 has USB 3.0.

The next step in 2 bay is the DS212 which has an upgraded processor and SD card slot but also and upgraded price at around $325. I've also seen it around $299.

You don't find $220 a bit high for a 2-drive box when you can get 4 drive boxes for similar or a bit more? I also find they underpower the CPUs and are skimpy on RAM.
