Microsoft has pushed out an update for all Windows Home Server 2011, SBS 2011, and Storage Server 2008 R2 users. If you would like to get the update immediately you can get to it via two methods.

1. Open the Dashboard and click Server Settings. Click change/install updates.

2. Click the Start button on the server and type update. Click Windows Updates.

Here is the Knowledge Base article specific to the Windows Home Server 2011 update. A quick summary of some of the issues resolved are:

You cannot register a Remote Web Access domain name that contains two or more root domain levels (such as testuser.com.uk).

In the Alert Viewer window, you select an alert, and then you click Ignore the alert to stop receiving notifications for this alert. However, the notifications still appear.

The Client Deployment Wizard fails with an authentication failure if one of the following conditions is true:

  • The server password contains a backslash and a double quotation mark (\").
  • The server password ends with a backslash (\).
  • The server password contains a double quotation mark (") but does not end with a double quotation mark.

When the server and the clients are in an OpenDNS network environment, you cannot connect to the server or the clients through the Remote Web Access webpage.

System time and certificate issues

If you are looking for a fix for the media tag issue it’s not in the update. Microsoft has published a workaround on their wiki though.

Go get it!

Finally I may be able to get rid of an error that says my SQL Connection Failed back on 11 AUG, and it's been working fine. I ignored the error (it was a My Movies database error but it was one of those timing issues that normally goes away, only this one didn't, even though it was resolved.)

I can't seem to get rid of the error stating my Router isn't configured properly. Everything is working and I can access via Remote but I can't get rid of the error. Doubt this helps though.

So far I have not had any issues...installed the software / rebooted and then rebooted all of the client machines. Everything is working fine.

I'll never get rid of the error. Course, I'll never enable UPnP either :)

And now we find out that a bunch of low end router makers, including Linksys, are exposing UPnP to the internet on their WAN ports, for any hacker to take advantage of - how nice of them to be so 'hacker friendly' :P

The SDM R4 is SOLD OUT!

The SDM R4 is a bracket that facilitates mounting two additional 2.5″ drives in a HP MicroServer Gen8. There are also mounting holes for fans across the bottom to help cool RAID/SATA cards. The kit includes all the fasteners needed to install.

With optional Stackers you can run four 2.5″ drives on the SDM R4. The SDM R4 will support four 9.5MM 2.5″ drives. If you want to run four drives on the SDM R4, you need to order SSB stacking brackets listed below. One set of SSB per drive pair, four drives will require two SSB kits. Because of the size of the SDM R4, if you are going to boot your server using the internal USB port, you will need to use a USB stick that is shorter than 1″.
