I've tried here in Columbus, OH and had my parents call around in Spartanburg, SC. No luck either places. Even had a friend call her ex-husband who is a manager at H.H. Gregg and still no luck, lol...

I follow Slickdeals and Fatwallet daily and here are my observations/beliefs (GUESSES)

HP is the only authorized retailer to sell them for 99.99.

People flooded their local tech stores where employees probably didn't realize they are not to sell them but corporate will be returning them to HP. Which explains why some people are getting Walmart to sell the, others are being told they can not. Retailers were probably taken by surprise and are scrambling to work this out. Microcenter was and now is not selling them. OD stopped selling them, Staples stopped selling them..a pattern is developing.

I've read that people who call HP's sales line are getting put on a waiting list for when more stock arrives (ie. bestbuy/staples....returns theirs)

I think your best bet to get one is to call HP and get on a list. People have had the best success with Walmart price matching the 99.99 price. The upside is Walmart has a UPS error that is selling people the 32gb model for 99.99 instead of the 16gb. Now of course all this will change 10 seconds after I hit Post.

If you have nothing to do for the next week, start reading this thread. Keep in mind once it hit 6000k posts, it was auto archived so you are only seeing posts 6000k + (count gets reset when archived).

One great feature of the Touchpad is you get 50gb free cloud storage for, well however long Box.net sticks around. So for me, my parents won't use the 50gb of space so 100gb free cloud storage for life is a great perk. Might even be worth picking up the Touchpad just for the free storage.

I placed an order with Micro Center this morning. It accepted my order but I have not got the confirmation email yet. I am guessing I will get the email telling me that I am out of luck.

I also called a local Office Depot. They are sold out but said they are expecting more. They are already in transit to the stores and could show up at any time.

UPDATE: I just looked at my credit card and Micro Center has charged it so we shall see.....of course they can issue credit just as easy too.

Well, i ordered a 32gb from office depot that I'll receive early next week and two from walmart.com that I was to pickup today. I showed up and the employees there screwed me out of one. They got very rude when someone came out from the back and told the girl helping me that they had pulled two for my order and one was still in the back. Seems like they kept one for themselves. Oh well, I had tweeted Dave that I'd pass one on to him but now with this I'm not able to.

So Dave, I'm @homesicktxan and I'm sorry it didn't work out!

Yep. Got my order confirmation from MicroCenter, followed by the cancellation 20 minutes later.

Got a partial cancellation from MicroCenter. Very strange. Will watch HP's site for Best Buy returns coming back.

Sorry for the bum steer, guys. I assumed that an ecommerce application showing inventory in stock and taking an order would result in shipped units. Silly me!

Keeping an eye on that HP page now. My Dad is pumped thinking he's getting a tablet now. Hope I can still snag one.

I found another link someone posted on fatwallet saying they ordered theirs through the Busniess Section and was able to get the order to submit BUT it took a lot of patience as the HP site is apparently overwhelmed right now.

Here's the link:

HP is screwing the customer over on shipping at $21.87 for the cheapest shipping method. Guess you can't complain seeing as how it was $399 though.

      Greetings,

I'm new to the HPMSG8 world and so far I'm loving it. I have a stock Xeon with 16G of aftermarket memory with iLO patched to 2.70. Next up is adding a RAID card, so I can put my boot SSD on the onboard RAID. I picked up a LSI SAS9211-8i on Amazon, but am struggling to flash it to IT mode on the MicroServer. Is this even possible? Unfortunately, the only other system I have with PCI slots is 32-bit.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

      Hi there,
I hope this topic fits here just right.
So a few days ago, I moved my Microserver Gen8 to a friend's place and resetted it.
When we set it up with new disks, the raid-creation in OpenMediaVault (Debian 9.6) failed.
`smartctl` tests passed just fine though and vendor-tools also didn't report any drive errors.
      What happened?
      - I start the Raid creation via `mdadm` and after a while (random blocks and times), it fails and the second disk seems to fail (e.g. sda and sdb are creating a raid, then sdb gets "kicked out" and reread as e.g. sdd, sometimes even with only a few GB of space instead of 3TB).
I tried attaching the second disk on ata2 and ata3, but it keeps failing. The one on ata1 works just fine though.
I tried different disks and vendors, but get the same results.
There are some errors in `dmesg`, but I don't know what they mean. I pasted them here: https://pastebin.com/raw/XASQJ6cy
What I did here: I stopped the raid to re-create it, but then didn't do anything for a while and the error still came up.

Can someone help me with this? (As a wild guess, I'd say that somethings wrong with the SATA connections at least on ata2 and ata3).

      Thanks in advance

Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction here. Have just replaced the CPU on my gen 8 microserver. Went according to the video above. Upon booting the server up, there is a clicking sound coming from the main board. Regular as clockwork, and the server isn't posting. Any ideas? I've swapped back to the G1610T CPU, but still the same issue. And just make it interesting, I don't have access to a monitor or keyboard.

Hello! Recently I've been thinking to upgrade the CPU in my HP ProLiant ML10 v2. It currently has a Intel® Pentium® G3240 (I got the model of this server that comes with the Intel® Pentium® G3240) and according to the manual I should be able to upgrade the CPU to a Intel® Xeon® E3-1220v3. Is this true? Do I need to change / get anything else? Thanks.

Hi all, Thought I would make a post about a recent project I started as it may be of some use as it's a fairly good base for a home server.

I recently bought a HP Proliant ML350p G8 on eBay for around $350, It had no drives, a very low spec E5-2609 4-core and 8GB of ram.

My first problem with this server was that it was loud, not really rack mount loud but too loud for me in a quiet room. So I thought hey! why not watercool it, so I set out doing research. I removed all three 92mm delta fans and spent an evening working out how to fool the system into thinking it still had them so it would let me boot it and see that all the fans were working, this was done using jumper cables in the hot plug slots; connecting the two black grounds and the single yellow signal pins together in each 5-pin header, there was no documentation on this anywhere that I could find so it was all trial and error, I hope this helps if you are considering watercooling any G8/G9 Proliant server as I imagine its fairly similar.

I also wanted a bit more punch so I had a look around and settled for a E5-2630v2 6-core from eBay for $70

Next was sourcing watercooling for it, I have gone for a single closed loop Corsair H90 $65 and a Asetek 2011 Narrow ILM ring adaptor $8 found HERE to fit the 2011 sockets found on the ML350, these bits are being delivered in the next few days so I will update with photos and results when the H90 is fitted! I might get another 2630v2 if all goes well as it has two 2011 sockets available.

This box will be used as a development environment eventually, probably running Hyper-V but I may throw a graphics card in it before and see how it does in some games just for the fun of it

      Hope this is of interest.

      Ryan,
