Client BSOD

Recommended Posts

I just recently installed my WHS 2011 and for the most part everthing is working great but occasionally I get a BSOD with one client when the server starts the backup process. I validated this by looking at the event viewer on the client and the unsucessful backup status on the WHS. Today I booted my clent PC and just minutes after it was up...BSOD. The crash dump was written and 9:15 and the WHS backup process started at 9:07. I had done nothing but open Chrome and started reading my Facebook newsfeed when it crashed.

I have had other crashes where the time stamps show it occured when wthe backup process had started and several crashes with out BSOD or dump logs written which didn't give time to compare to WHS processes.

The specific error shows IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

All my other clients work great. Any suggestions?

Memory. Run memrest and see what it says. You can also try reseating the RAM or using a single stick at a time while you retry your backup.

Any external devices connected to the client? Have any device drivers been recently updated?

I ran memtest86+ for 10 full cycles ...about 8 hours with no errors.

That was the last entry before the reboot sequence begins. And the exact same time that the Windows Home Server attempted to do it's client backup. I've posted this on the Norton forum but no info so far there.

hmmm, I'm wondering if you've got an issue with backup because the volume shadow copy serviced is not starting properly.
