What is the "xxx.homeserver.com" domain actually doing?

Is it routing directly to your server or going somewhere else first then finding its way to your server?

There is a service that is serving DNS name resolution for the xxx.homeserver.com domains. So, your routing should take you directly to your server.

So it's no different than any other domain?

I'm just wondering if I should register a new domain if I want to use my server for more than purely media (like as a VPN proxy).

I guess you could do that if you had a Static IP address. Part of the magic of WHS is that it constantly updates your current IP address with xxx.homserver.com which inturn routes the request to your WHS box.

Really?! I had no idea homeserver.com was also a DDNS. Very cool.
