I just bought a use HP Microserver Gen7 N40L that I'll use for testing using TrueNAS OS.

I already have a HP Microserver Gen8 with FreeNAS to store my Photos and Videos.

What do you use our Gen7 Microserver in 2021?

Maybe I'll get new idea on what to use it for.

Thanks!

I have three N40L servers at home running a myriad of things:

Unit 1 with 8GB RAM and quad-gigabit NIC: Untangle NG Firewall

Unit 2 with 16GB RAM and quad-gigabit NIC: ESXi host running PCNS, Pi-Hole, and Windows Server 2019 DNS+DHCP

Unit 3 with 2GB RAM and 6TB storage: XPEnology NAS for secondary backup

Despite these servers getting a little long in the tooth, they're still great for running small workloads that aren't CPU-intensive. Using it as a NAS is great, just don't expect it to do much beyond that, like transcoding videos, etc.

Enjoy!
