Can the drive cage be removed from the N40L?

I don't have one near me so I'm asking the community if anyone ever tried removing the 4-bay drive cage? Is it screwed on, rivetted, welded, integral part of the case stamping, etc.?

I'm almost too embarrassed to say why...

I'd like to repurpose a couple of DDR3 memory but they came from a gaming PC so both have tall heat sinks and will surely snag the drive cage. As this is a firewall appliance, the lone system drive can be stowed up in the ODD compartment. I don't mind bending a few things but if it can be removed without resorting to violence, that's always better. :)
