MauriceGee
Hiya all. It's probably out there somewhere, but I've not been able to find it yet. Can any provide me a link to a good SSD/HDD compatibility list? And by "good" I don't mean the original HPE list.  😂 Thanks. Maurice
schoondoggy
Unfortunately, the only official supported drive lists would likely be from HPE, with HPE drive part numbers. You may want to post the question from the angle; What drives are people running on P420? What is the largest drive anyone is running on a P420? Has anyone had any issues with certain drives or SSD on the P420? Â Is there a specific drive or SSD you are hoping to use?
MauriceGee
I'm hoping to use HDD's like WD Red SATA, Seagate Ironwolf SATA, Seagate Exos SATA or Seagate Exos SAS.
schoondoggy
All of those should work. Be sure to have the latest firmware on the P420. For WD Reds confirm you are not getting SMR drives: Â
kavejo
I have been running P420 on all my 3 servers (MicroServer Gen.8, DL360e, DL380e). They work fine with almost all WD drives (Red, Red Pro, Purple) as well as Samsung SSDs (840 Evo, 840 Pro, 850 Pro). HP SAS drives work flawlessly as well. Â I only had problems with a WD Blue 1TB 2.5 HDD that made the fans go at full throttle. Â On my larger servers I have now moved to P822 as I needed to attach some storage shelves, the same drives listed above works with the P822 as well, which sadly, doesn't fit the MicroServer though. Let me know if you need the model number. Â These raid card and drive configurations (tried Raid 0, 10, 50, 60) in various combinations had no performance issues and they worked out of the box with ESXi 7, Proxmox, Debian, Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, despite the last 2 are not officially supported or installable via Intelligent Provisioning.
