MattG 1
I've had this issue for quite a while. I'll have warnings, critical and otherwise, shown in the Health Monitoring tab of the Windows Server Dashboard. When I right click to 'delete' an alert, the 'Processing' progress window pops up and says 'Your request is being processed' and nothing happens. It just sits there and spins for... forever... apparently. Is there another way to delete warnings from the server? Thank you for your help! -Matt
Jason 84
Ah. Had this same issue with WS202 R2. It is caused by updating the .NET version from the default 4.5 version that installs with the OS. I was able to simply rollback the server to the original version and not update it to latest future versions like 4.8, etc and everything is fine. Unfortunately the Dashboard simply isn’t compatible with the newer versions of .NET. The result is crashing Dashboard and hung up statuses as you’ve seen.
MattG 1
So, next dumb question, how can I tell which updates are .NET related? They're all listed as 'Update for Microsoft Windows', unfortunately. Looks like I'm on .NET 4.7.x Well, looks like I found my answer, ugh: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/archive/blogs/astebner/mailbag-how-to-revert-to-older-versions-of-the-net-framework-4-family Edited September 13, 2020 by MattG
Jason 84
Not a problem. You’ll just need to rollback to an older .NET version. I just decided to run the compatible version with WSE12R2 and forego any future updates. That way I could continue using that Dashboard and not have those warning messages that wouldn’t clear or the crashing Dashboard issue.
MattG 1
Well, I've got a list of about, oh, 100 KB's that I need to look up to find out which one pertains to .NET. Unless you happen to know of an easer way? I've attached screenshot 3 of 4...
Jason 84
@MattG yes, you'll want to remove the following Microsoft updates from your WSE12R2 machine: KB4486105 NET 4.8 Windows Server 2012 R2 KB4054566 NET 4.7.2 Windows Server 2012 R2 You should then automatically be back to .NET 4.5.2 on your machine. This is the version that is compatible with WSE12R2 Dashboard. Your dashboard will then no longer crash and you'll also be able to clear warnings without any issue.
MattG 1
When I remove the main installations, what happens to the security and quality updates? Do they get removed as well?
Jason 84
Yes, if I recall correctly, they do.
MattG 1
So if it helps anyone else, these are the updates that I uninstalled. Finally, I can delete/ignore the alerts on the Health Monitoring tab again. Very happy. Thank you Jason!
