I'd pick AMD for my gaming rig, but for my server, there tends to be a much broader range of decent ITX boards, but thats a bit OT...

Having raised 3 now adult daughters, two of which are gamers, a good family pc strategy is to consider. "Handme downs " in making new pc purchases.

I focused on compatibily as much as possible. When I upgraded, i was able to use the leftover stuff else where.. a couple of years ago, i went from 8 to 16 gigs on my box. I was able to use my leftover 4 gig sticks to also upgrade another kids machine to 16 gigs.

Ditto for things like cases, ssd's

Going too far in either direction (slim builds, eatx big build) reduce the ability to do this

Hell, now my son in laws look forward to my hand me downs!

I would prefer AMD, but AMD mini ITX board choices are limited.

True, the obsession with finding the smallest case, likely creates a  whole set of other issues. The Cooler Master 130 is a great case. I have also been looking for an opportunity to try one of these:

Asus B450/B550 I Gaming are decent options
