Successor to the 5028D-TN4T?

Recommended Posts

This server has been around for five years now, does anyone know if a replacement is on the horizon? The price is still pretty high and I'm reluctant to buy something 5 years old as a replacement for my Gen8 HP Microserver. The form factor of these machines is very important to me, otherwise I'd move to a tower or even a rackmount.

Given there is a board that takes 8th/9th Gen Intel stuff I cant imagine it'll be a long time before Super micro release something for the 10th gen stuff.

Found it! Supermicro released the 5029C-T last May, specs are:

- 8th/9th Generation Intel® Corei3/Pentium®/Celeron® Processor, Intel® Xeon® E-2100 Processor, Intel® Xeon® E-2200 Processor., Single Socket LGA-1151 (Socket H4) supported, CPU TDP support Up to 95W TDP
- Intel® C242 chipset
- Up to 64GB DDR4 2666MHz ECC UDIMM; 2 DIMM slots
- Dual GbE LAN with Intel® i210-AT
- 4 SATA3 (6Gbps); RAID 0, 1, 5, 10
- M.2 NGFF connector
- M.2 Interface: 1 SATA/PCI-E 3.0 x4

- 1 PCI-E 3.0 x16 (in x16 slot)

- PSU: 250W

All specs here: https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/motherboard/X11SCL-iF & https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/system/midtower/5029/SYS-5029C-T.cfm

For the CPU cooler, the manufacturer produces this one specifically for the case: SNK-P0074AP4

The case appears to be nearly identical if not identical to the 5028D-TN4T. I imagine the RAID is SoftRAID, so a RAID card would need to be added, does anyone have a make & model to recommend for a machine of this generation?

So I was looking at RAM for this motherboard, and it appears that 32Gb ECC sticks only come as RDIMMs, not UDIMMs. The manual states it uses UDIMMs And last time I tried to use RDIMM in a motherboard that didn't support them it wouldn't boot. The SuperMicro site claims that a BIOS update was released in early 2019 to support 64Gb, would that be all it would take to support RDIMM sticks?

It is generally hard to find high capacity ECC UDIMM;

Samsung appears to make them:

SuperMicro is showing a part, but I do not see Micron offering it as a part:

Nemix seems to be making parts:

DataRam has one as well:

Thanks, I was looking on Swiss shopping sites only, and all they'd turn up were RDIMMs. Thanks for the links, I'm going to take a look at all those. I've pulled the trigger on buying the 5029T-C with a Xeon E-2278G and will order Ram+M.2 SSD+Raid card next month and possibly a 2.5" or two so I could achieve at least having a spare drive for RAID5 or even do RAID6. This site is so full of knowledge, especially from you Schoondoggy, thanks again!

It'll be a continuation of my current Microserver Gen8, but with some additional VMs. Should be fun to setup.
