schoondoggy 895
Sorry for this QNAP Ethernet switch commercial. I have been looking at cost effective switches that support 10GbE or multigig. QNAP has had the QSW-1208-8C ($548) and QSW-804-4C ($457) out for a while. They have added the QSW-308-1C ($185) and QSW-308S ($160). The QSW-308 have eight 1GbE ports and either three 10GbE SFP+ ports or two 10GbE SFP+ and a shared 10GbE SFP+ or multigig RJ45 port: https://www.qnap.com/en-uk/product/qsw-308-1c https://www.qnap.com/en-uk/product/qsw-308s What other 10GbE or mulitgig capable switches at low price points have you seen? nrf 135
we've had much worse commercials :) is the idea that you have a couple servers that can service clients while giving each full 1gb bandwidth?
schoondoggy 895
I currently am looking for test bench gear, but yes a server or two on 10GbE and 1GbE for the rest.
JackoUK 54
My current thinking (i.e. untested) on the topic: - if only 2 ports are needed then direct wire without a switch - maybe a chain of Thunderbolt devices will do - if, as in my home setup, only 2 devices need 10GB then something like the NETGEAR GS110 at £197 - then the NETGEAR XS505 with 5 ports at £271 - leading up to the NETGEAR XS508 with 8 ports at £352 The MikroTik CRS305 gets a good write-up here: https://www.servethehome.com/mikrotik-crs305-1g-4sin-review-4-port-must-have-10gbe-switch/ I like the idea of copper connections within the cat5 limit of 45m. schoondoggy 895
Netgear has a variety of multigig switches: https://www.netgear.com/landings/multi-gig/
Dave 434
MikroTik has always been the cost leader here but I got reprimanded the last time I mentioned them. 🤷♂️
schoondoggy 895
Mikrotik unfortunately has landed on the do not buy list from the government. Security folks I know, say stay away.
ShadowPeo 81
Would be interested in more info on that one
JackoUK 54
Heaven forbid the American Government or an American IT company should do something untoward ;-)
nrf 135
so remind me how many backdoors were found in Cisco stuff in the last 5 years?
