Something is very wrong with my Gen8

Recommended Posts

Im running a E3-1265L V2.

I noticed that windows reads 0.25Ghz: https://i.imgur.com/ntbBSQz.png

CPU utilization is 0% https://i.imgur.com/zql63MR.png

OS is Windows 10 and perhaps this started when I installed that OS. Server 2016 did not have this issue.

My BIOS is the newest from 2018

There is nothing wrong with your Gen 8.

I had the same issue running Server 2019. Just go in to bios and set the Power Profile to OS Controlled.

I, too, am running Windows 10 (well, from today) but the graphics are naff and using a default Microsoft driver.

I no longer have access to  HP's server site - my G8 is pretty old - and I'd be keen to get hold of a decent (I assume Matrox) graphics driver.

Could you or anyone else suggest where?

TIA

Everyone has access to HPE support for drivers. BIOS downloads require a warranty or service contract.

I think the Server 2016 driver will work

schoondoggy,

I initially misread your reply and was thinking, "not up to his usual highly ultra-helpful standard - he's only telling me what I already know, about warranty and service contract!".

😉

Then I read it properly!

D'oh!

I downloaded from the link you gave and a minute or so later my G8 was transformed.

As always, HUGE thanks!

Cheers

Bob

Update

Graphics before the update were horrible - now they are at a sensible resolution and there's no huge delay when opening folders as there was before. However, I'd likely not choose to watch much online video on my G8, it's a bit laggy.

That said, I'm hoping to bring the machine back into commission, to use as a backup of my backups, so the lagging on video is of hardly any consequence. Again, many thanks!

I was on vacation and just came back... This sounds very promising! I will test it when I get home. Thanks alot!

The problem was infact the power management! PEte_79 is a god!

If PEte_79 is god, then by my reckoning, schoondoggy is god's god's God.
