Upgrading Gen8 with no contract

Hi, wondering if anyone can advise what the correct process is to update firmware / drivers etc on Gen8 Microserver with no warranty/support?

I've seen the Spectre update is available for free

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5390291&swItemId=MTX_671606ca210640bbb93ae3b683&swEnvOid=4184

However, I am not sure if the process is better to download a service pack instead that contains updates together?

I am running FreeNAS 11.2.

On another note, I am wondering if there is any way of utilising iLO without having a license?

Thank you very much

Hello,

I recently upgraded my Gen8 J06 (Linux OS) and prefered to use separate upgrade process than the SPP.

For Bios, i used this then :

Unpack :

rpm2cpio <rpm_filename>.rpm | cpio -id

Check where is the usefull file (hpsetup) :

rpm -qlp <filename>.rpm

Then go to the repo and execute with ./hpsetup

+ reboot

Same for Ilo (here) and the P420 (here).

It works fine and i guess the double ROM could rescue in case of problem (i didn't test this).

I guess it's the same for microsoft.

Ps. I don't have any ilo licence.
