Xeon E3 1270 sr00n CPU in my Gen8 - Too hot ?

Recommended Posts

I have got this used CPU Xeon E3 1270 sr00n for free and it seems to be possible to upgrade my Gen8 with it. It seems to me that it gets pretty hot so I guess the stock cooler isn't enough to cool this CPU. Can the Akasa K25 cooler do the job or is there something that might be a better choice?

The optional 65w heatsink solution from HPE would help. A blower forcing air over the original heatsink works as well. There have been several posts around modified cooling solutions and water cooling solutions.

Problem with aftermarket you can only usually get 2 of the screws in place, there is an official heat sink with a heat pipe, was for the later servers with more CPU options, search my posts and you’ll find part codes, not cheap though, I paid over £100gbp for a new one.

e3-1270v2 with akasa :)

cpu max temp 100% usage - 69*C

akasa fan 9v

system fan 70% (idle 13%)

only 2 screws used but its stable, had to use additional spacers on springs
