Looking for a NAS

Recommended Posts

The AS4004T gets a good write up over at https://www.servethehome.com/asustor-as4004t-a-fast-and-affordable-10gbe-4-bay-nas/

This is somewhat expensive because of the 10G network port … but I didn't understand the bit about 'price reasons' for someone thinking about buying a MacBook Pro ;-)

I'm beginning to lean towards ReFS and a multi-column mirrored Storage Space with more disks ... instead of RAID 5.

ReFS should mitigate the URE problem and the higher disk count speed the rebuilding.

So 8TB of data would  require 8x2TB  disks in a 4-column mirror.

That's going to be very expensive (including Windows Pro for Workstations at least) ...

… the question is how cautious do you want to be and how valuable is your data?

I have the AS4004T on the way and will take a look at it for the forums and podcast.
